Watch Condition Rating Scale

Due to the nature of pre-owned watches, all of our timepieces are rated very carefully to correctly describe it’s condition.  The Below is the scale that can be used to understand the condition of the timepiece you are considering as well as to rate your timepiece when submitting it for consignment, Selling or trade.

Condition

Description

Unworn

Never worn. The watch is in perfect condition. The watch comes with (if applicable) protective pieces or plastic coverings. The watch may/may not come with original box, papers, and accessories. The watch is in working order. The watch keeps very good time; no servicing required.

Mint

The watch is “like new”, looks unworn, and is in perfect condition—as close to new as possible. The watch does not come with (if applicable) protective pieces or plastic coverings. The watch may/may not come with original box, papers, and accessories. The watch is in working order. The watch keeps very good time; no servicing required. .

Excellent

The watch shows signs of minimal wear. Signs of slight scratching but no dings or nicks. The watch does not come with (if applicable) protective pieces or plastic coverings. The watch may/may not come with original box, papers, and accessories. The watch is in working order. The watch keeps very good time.

Very Good

The watch shows signs of normal wear visible to the naked eye. Surface scratches are visible but no dings or nicks. Bracelet may have some minimal stretching. The watch may/may not come with original box, papers, and accessories. The watch is in working order. The watch keeps good time with some deviation.

Good

The watch shows signs of obvious wear visible to the naked eye. The watch may have deep scratches, dings, nicks, and moderate bracelet stretching. The watch may/may not come with original box, papers, and accessories. The watch is in working order.

Fair

The watch shows signs of heavy wear visible to the naked eye. The watch may have deep scratches, dings, nicks, discoloration, and severe bracelet stretching. The watch may/may not come with original box, papers, and accessories. The watch is in working order. The watch likely needs servicing and likely has replacement parts.

poor

The watch shows signs of very heavy wear and/or significant damage. The watch may have severe scratching, dents, and broken parts. There may be rusting, discoloration, and flaking. The watch will require major work and it has missing parts. The watch may/may not come with original box, papers, and accessories. Extensive servicing, repair, and maintenance required.  A watch in “Poor Condition” is best used for parts or a long-term restoration project.
